Break Free from Plastic Campus

On June 30, 2022, the Environment and Social Development Organization-ESDO organized the 3rd session of the Plastic-free Campus Follow-up Session with members of their green club at Lalmatia Housing Society School and College in Dhaka City. Before this session, ESDO organized two more sessions on April 14th and May 31st, 2022.

The goal of this event was to develop the next generation of environmental leaders and encourage students to practice a single-use plastic-free lifestyle. The first session of plastic-free campus was the introductory session. ESDO initiated the “Plastic-free Campus” at this first session with the students of Lalmatia Housing Society School and College. This included a presentation which introduced the concept of plastic-free campus to the students and why it is important to build a campus plastic free. In this session, the students were given a calendar to track their regular single-use plastic product consumption and an activity sheet where they would write down the names of the single-use plastic products they were using, their sources, and whether they could be refused or not. In the second session, of plastic-free campus, the tracking calendar and activity sheets were collected, and they were given new ones. This session included a drawing competition where students drew alternatives of plastic bag and bottle. The third session included activities like a quiz competition, single-use plastic hunting, making plastic monsters, and a prize giving ceremony. The Green Club students of Lalmatia Housing Society School and College actively took part in all activities.

From first session to third session, ESDO has been monitoring the students through the single-use plastic tracking calendar and the activity sheet. Students have been doing really well, they participated in all the session with full dedication. After doing three sessions of plastic free campus, now they clearly understand that plastic specially single-use plastic has a monstrous effect on our environment.
