BFFP Brand Audit of Single-use Plastic – 2023

Brand Audit of single-use plastic pollution was organized by Environment and Social Development Organization – ESDO in partnership with BFFP (Break Free from Plastic) on 30 September of 2023. The primary purpose of the brand audit is to identify and quantify the single-use plastic waste generated by specific brands.

The goals include holding companies accountable for their plastic waste, advocating for more sustainable packaging practices, and raising awareness about the environmental impact of single-use plastics. Volunteers from different organization such as; in Dhaka- St. Joseph High School and College, Lalmatia Housing Society School and College, Lalmatia Girls High School and College, in Rangpur- Rangpur Zilla School and Rangpur Govt. Gilrs High School and College participated in the brand audit typically collect plastic waste items from a specific area, such as a community, park, marketplace or urban location.

These items are sorted and categorized by brand. The collected data is then analyzed to determine which brands are the most prominent contributors to plastic pollution in that area. This helps inform consumers about the environmental impact of top polluters brands and encourages them to make more sustainable choices. Environmental organizations like ESDO may use the audit results with the help of international organization Break Free from Plastic to engage with brands and companies, urging them to take responsibility for their plastic waste and adopt more sustainable packaging practices. ESDO along with BFFP has been conducting brand audits for the past five years to address plastic pollution. Long-term efforts like this can have a significant impact on raising awareness and driving change. Consider conducting periodic brand audits to track changes in plastic waste patterns and measure the impact of awareness-raising efforts.
