The collaboration between Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO) and GAIA to organize the “Documentary Showcasing on ESDO’s Initiative of Zero Waste Village (ZWV)” is a commendable effort in promoting sustainable living and addressing environmental issues. The event, held on 15th January as part of the observance of International Zero Waste Month (IZWM), had a primary focus on educating and engaging the community, particularly the youth of Tushvandar, Lalmonirhat in the Rangpur Division.
With a total of 50 participants actively participating in the event, it aimed to raise awareness and knowledge about leading a zero-waste lifestyle. The program took place at the hall room of Life Project 4 Youth (LP4Y) in Tushvandar, Lalmonirhat. ESDO successfully built capacity among the community members of Betgari Union in Rangpur, where residents have embraced a Zero Waste lifestyle through practices such as segregating organic and inorganic waste, composting, and utilizing biogas to reduce methane emissions.
The success in Betgari has inspired ESDO to extend its knowledge of zero-waste living to other communities. The event featured a documentary showcasing the Zero Waste Village and included a workshop on combating plastic pollution. During the workshop, participants collaboratively discussed and generated ideas to address plastic pollution in their respective communities.
This initiative reflects ESDO’s dedication to spreading awareness and empowering communities to adopt sustainable practices and combat environmental challenges. By actively involving the community, especially the youth, in the conversation and providing them with the tools and knowledge to address environmental issues, ESDO and GAIA contribute significantly to the broader goal of achieving a more sustainable and eco-friendly way of living.
