On July 1, 2024, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and ESDO collaborated with the government on national advocacy and linkage with the Global Plastic Treaty negotiations. The Bangladesh government has expressed support for expanding the Global Plastic Treaty negotiation process, emphasizing the importance of addressing the chemicals found in plastics and their detrimental impact on environmental well-being. ESDO’s submission to the International Negotiating Committee (INC) underscores the critical need for the Global Plastic Treaty to focus on these harmful chemicals. It is imperative for the Bangladesh delegation in the INC process to adopt a constructive stance to prevent the movement of transboundary plastic waste, ensuring that the treaty effectively addresses these environmental challenges.
