On May 19, 2024, the Department of Environment (DoE) in Chattogram, in collaboration with the Environment and Social Development Organization – ESDO, conducted a day-long orientation workshop focused on creating plastic-free campuses. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC)’s 100-day action plan, which prioritizes eliminating plastic waste from educational institutions across Bangladesh.
In 2022, ESDO launched a significant project aimed at promoting plastic-free campuses. This initiative has since gained considerable momentum, becoming a key component of MoEFCC’s environmental strategy. As part of this effort, two schools in Chattogram, St. Placid School and College, and Pahartali Girls School and College, have been selected as primary participants.
The goal is to declare these campuses completely free of plastic by June 2024. This project not only aims to mitigate the environmental impact of plastic waste but also to educate and inspire students and the broader community about sustainable practices and the importance of environmental stewardship.
