Environment and Social Development Organization—ESDO organized a day-long mobile campaign around Dhaka city to observed Plastic-Free July on 8 July 2023. This mobile campaign was successful in spreading the message “Combat plastic pollution” to raise awareness of the urgent requirement to stop plastic pollution.
Plastic-free July is a worldwide initiative that empowers millions of individuals to contribute to the fight against plastic pollution. It is a month-long challenge designed to persuade consumers to refuse single-use plastics in order to choose more environmental friendly alternatives.
ESDO launched this mobile campaign in order to raise awareness of the harmful effects of plastic, enlighten people about the global plastic treaty, and rally support for measures to stop plastic pollution. The campaign began at TSC, University of Dhaka, at 9.30 am. The ESDO team divided into numerous sections throughout the campaign to gather feedback on the potential hazards of plastic from people of all ages and conduct interviews. The majority of respondents expressed appreciation for the ESDO’s work and worry about the negative effects plastic trash has on the environment. They urged the government to quickly halt plastic manufacture and make its replacement goods widely accessible to the public.
It was important that people voluntarily participated in this day-long mobile campaign. Many people were initially ignorant of the Global Plastic Treaty, but as they learned about it, they voiced their support for the treaty. The campaign started at TSC and made its way through the National Press Club, Hatirjheel, Gulshan, and Shangsad Bhavan, ultimately reaching Dhanmondi Lake at 4:30 pm.
