On July 8, 2023, the Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO) organized a day-long mobile campaign across various locations in Dhaka city to commemorate Plastic-Free July. The campaign aimed to spread awareness about the hazards of plastic, educate people about the global plastic treaty, and garner support for efforts to combat plastic pollution.
The campaign commenced at 9:30 am at TSC, University of Dhaka, where ESDO teams engaged with the public to collect feedback on the dangers of plastic and conducted interviews. The response was overwhelmingly supportive, with many expressing concern about the environmental impact of plastic waste. Participants urged the government to take swift action to cease plastic production and make alternative, eco-friendly products readily available.
The campaign journeyed through various key locations in Dhaka, including the National Press Club, Hatirjheel, Gulshan, and Shangshod Bhavan, culminating at Dhanmondi Lake at 4:30 pm. Despite initial lack of awareness about the Global Plastic Treaty, participants were eager to support the agreement upon learning about its significance. ESDO’s mobile campaign successfully disseminated the message of combatting plastic pollution, engaging the public, and advocating for sustainable alternatives, contributing to a cleaner and greener future for Dhaka and beyond.
