Environment and Social Development Organization-ESDO is proud to be actively involved in the international efforts to combat plastic pollution. At the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-4), contributed significantly to the development of an international legally binding instrument (ILBI) on plastic pollution, with a particular focus on its impact on the marine environment.
Following the conclusion of INC-4, expert groups will begin their work electronically, with in-person meetings arranged as resources allow, to facilitate effective collaboration. The primary focus areas of these groups will be to address primary plastic polymers and establish regulations for chemicals and polymers of concern.
At INC-4, delegates also established a legal drafting group, which will commence its work at INC-5. This group is tasked with ensuring the legal clarity of the new instrument on plastic pollution. Dr. Shahriar Hossain, Secretary General of ESDO, and Siddika Sultana, Executive Director of ESDO, are representing ESDO and Bangladesh at the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-4).
