The Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO), in partnership with Break Free from Plastic (BFFP), Plastic Solution Funds (PSF), and Mutual Trust Bank Limited (MTBL), address the alarming issue of single-use plastic pollution among Bangladesh schoolchildren. As part of the plastic-free campus initiative, ESDO organized a planning meeting and follow-up session and graduation ceremony planning on December 30, 2023. During the follow-up session, students from 10 schools from 5 divisions enthusiastically engaged and expressed their thoughts and experiences from the project. Students were able to share their opinions about how the project influenced their awareness of environmental issues, especially pollution from single-use plastics, during a structured feedback session.
Taking into consideration various aspects of student participation, information retention, and the adoption of eco-friendly activities on school grounds, ESDO assessed the project’s efficacy. The schedule for the next graduation ceremony was also discussed in detail. In order to promote a plastic-free environment, the celebration seeks to acknowledge and remember the efforts of students and schools. In-depth evaluation of project activities and milestones was given during this follow-up session. Feedback and involvement from students were requested, and the results showed improvements in school-based environmental movements and awareness. A number of environmental clubs and an ethical club have seen increases in awareness and participation. Resource limitations have been identified as a barrier.
The Plastic Free Campus Project has made great progress in encouraging student responsibility and increasing awareness of the issue of plastic pollution. While the preparations for the graduation ceremony demonstrate a dedication to honoring group efforts, the follow-up session offered valuable insights.
